Vineyard

Vineyard - the birthplace of the wines!!

It has always been our aim to nurture wine in an environment friendly way, to spare nature and to present our customers a natural and good wine.

Soil is valuable…
Responsible and gentle soil-maintenance by planting vegetation in the vine rows, doing without insecticides as well as a modified organic fertilisation guarantees the optimal conditions to flourish our vines. In doing so the main goal is the preservation of the natural fundamentals.

The classic habitat for Riesling is schist. It brings tangy, fruity delicate wines, full of  minerals with a firm acid structure.

The work in the vineyard forms the potential of the wine
The ambition to create high quality wines and therewith modest harvests, navigates the works in the vineyards all over the year. The vines are cut possibly short in the winter and intensive foliage works of the overflow takes place from April to September. The early reaping of superfluous grapes and a late and mostly selective harvest are highly important factors for achieving an optimal quality of the grapes.

In the weeks before the grape harvest,we stop working in the vineyard
Now the quality of the vintage only depends on the grace of nature. Ideal conditions are provided by sunny and dry autumn weather before and during the vintage. However, these perfect conditions are rare. Therefore intuition and experiences of the winegrower are priceless, especially during the vintage.

The taste and the aroma of the grapes define the moment of vintage
To determine the right moment for vintage, the grapes are being tasted; it is not simply the sugar content that is measured. Healthy and ripe grapes are required for breeding first-class wines.

Our vineyards
Our vineyards are situated in the districts Kröv and Kinheim.
About 23.000 vines are growing on circa 4 hectares of vineyard area. Every single area, and with that their terroir, is being formed by the natural interaction between microclimate and soil - from water supply, the insolation to the gradient of the vineyard.

The Kröver Steffensberg
Our top location and one of the best of the Moselle. The south-west hillside is characterised by deep devon-schist soil. Here it goes up to 75%. This is year after year our guarantee for great Riesling-wines from Spätlese up to Trockenbeerenauslese.

The Kröver Paradies
is with 162 hectare the biggest individual vineyard in Kröv. In the lowlands the soil is heavy and loamy; mainly Müller-Thurgau is cultivated here. On the hillside we find devon-schist once again and the Riesling that grows here, is light and fruity. Our Weißburgunder is cultivated here as well.

The famous Kröver Nacktarsch
The ancient place name is nowadays the grand vineyard for the entire district of Kröv. Any “Kröver” wine can be sold as Kröver Nacktarsch. A not completely unimportant fact is that the grand vineyard ‘Kröver Nacktarsch’ counts as one of the few that is located within the boundaries of just one municipality.  To oenophiles this means that the original origin is guaranteed every single time.

The Kinheimer Rosenberg
borders directly on the Kröver Paradies. Here we find heavy soil once again. Our Dornfelder and Kerner vines are growing here. In the more steeply part of the Rosenberg we find paltry, dry schist-soil, which perfectly suits our Riesling and Spätburgunder.
